At DMU, we highly value faith and spiritual support and recognise its importance to so many of our community, and its centrality in coping with many of life’s challenges. The health and wellbeing of our students and staff is always our highest priority.
Government guidance and concerns around the recent increased spread of Covid 19, have led us to the unfortunate conclusion that it would not be possible to open the faith facilities at DMU, at present, in a safe way.
Therefore, the campus prayer rooms, ablution spaces and chapel will remain closed until further notice.
This has been a very difficult decision and we know this news will be disappointing for many staff and students.
We understand the continued importance of supporting students and staff members of faith, and will review this decision as soon as it is practicable to do so.
DMU and DSU are working together to ensure that students can continue to access faith support online via our team of faith advisers who continue to offer 1:1 advice and support via phone or email.
DSU have a range of faith societies students can join online including Islamic Society and the Christian Union.
Prayer room users can contact our Imam Mohammed Laher via muslimchaplain@dmu.ac.uk for advice about continuing to pray at home or any other faith related matter affecting their studies. Alternative local mosques can be found here.
