DMU staff and students can take part in our Leicester Pride celebrations starting this week, on Wednesday 2 September.
Usually, we’d be lining the streets for Leicester Pride but unfortunately that isn’t possible this year. Instead, De Montfort Students' Union (DSU) has teamed up with Leicester Students’ Union to bring you a jam-packed week of events so we can still enjoy Leicester Pride.
DSU's Equality and Diversity Executive, Diya Rattanpal, has been working with the LGBTQ+ Liberation Officer, Tom Leggate, to ensure that we’re not missing out on the celebrations. Prepare yourselves for a week full of quizzes, playlists, cooking, guest speakers and more!
See our events list below:
Thursday 3 September, 6pm
Pride quiz night
Friday 4 September, 2pm
Cooking with Tom (including a competition!)
Monday 7 September, 6.30pm
Netflix watch party, Disclosure
Thursday 10 September, 4pm
Introduction to inclusive teaching with Sam Parr
Friday 11 September, 2pm
Informal discussion: Queer and corona
DSU will be sharing online links to each event on its Twitter account.
DSU's LGBTQ+ Liberation Officer, Tom, said: “We really didn’t want anyone to miss our Pride in Leicester, so we’ve joined forces with Leicester Students’ Union to plan some fabulous virtual celebrations instead.
“It’s so important that we remember the impacts of the LGBT movement, and I cannot wait for our community of students to come together online to show the same love!”
Diya said: “Although the Pride parade can’t go ahead this year, it doesn't mean that Pride has to be postponed too!
“We're so looking forward to week ahead, where we can celebrate our wonderful LGBTQ+ community and get excited for the year ahead!
“We want to see you all get stuck in with the events we have planned, and I for one, can’t wait to see all of your delicious bakes!”
