To mark the United Nations (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Trinity House will be lit in purple on Tuesday 3 December and throughout Disability History Month.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been marked by the UN since 1992 and raises awareness of people with disabilities, as well as advocating for their dignity and rights, while increasing understanding of disability issues.
#PurpleLightUp is a global movement that celebrates and raises awareness of the economic contribution made by the 386 million disabled employees around the world.
Meredith Wilkinson, David Gordon and Jo Strange, co-chairs of the DisAbility and Wellbeing Network (DAWN), said: “Each year we join the UN in observing this day to promote the positive contribution people with disabilities make to society.
“On Tuesday, Trinity House will be lit up in purple to raise awareness and reinforce the importance of securing the rights of staff and students with disabilities at DMU.”
Disability History Month at DMU
DMU is currently celebrating Disability History Month (DHM) between Thursday 14 November and Friday 20 December 2024, with an exciting and inclusive programme of virtual and in-person events.
