DMUactive has launched a virtual programme of activities to continue to support the DMU community through the second national lockdown.
DMUactive is a free, weekly recreational sport and fitness programme that runs throughout the academic year and is open to all staff and students at DMU.
Emilie Fairnington, DMU’s Sport Project Coordinator – Participation, said: “We are over the moon that we are able to continue to support staff and students to stay active, stay connected and look after their wellbeing during the second national lockdown through the launch of the DMUactive virtual offer.
“We wanted to ensure that we provided fun safe activity for everyone within the DMU community so have created three strands to the offer to help us achieve this: the DMUactive Virtual Timetable, #KeepDMUactive and How to with DMUactive."
Read on to find out more about DMUactive’s virtual offer.
DMUactive Virtual Timetable
We have developed a virtual timetable of recreational sports activities with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre. Similar to the regular weekly timetable, there will be a variety of free, live sessions for all DMU students and staff.
You can join all sessions from the comfort of your own home, but we do ask that you are aware of your surroundings and have enough room to safely join in the sessions. We also recommend that you warm-up and stretch before joining a session virtually to prevent injury.
You don't have to sign up to a session before attending as you can access the virtual live sessions via the DMU livestream or by downloading the DMU Leisure app. For the stretching and basic gymnastic conditioning sessions, you can access them here.
If you are unsure of what a session is you can read the session descriptions here. See the DMUactive virtual timetable below.
#KeepDMUactive
Through the #KeepDMUactive initiative, that was launched during the first national lockdown, we will be providing DMU staff and students with free workout videos that they can do whenever best works for them. From pilates to Zumba to fitness home workouts, there will be something for everyone!
Participants can take a look at #KeepDMUactive content on DMUsport's YouTube channel.
‘How to’ with DMUactive
The How to with DMUactive initiative will help DMU staff and students to develop their skills and enhance their knowledge of a specific activity, and to encourage them to keep active while we are unable to deliver face-to-face sessions.
From how to do a chest pass to how to hold a badminton racket, our DMUactive and Active League activator volunteers will be creating online content that you can easily follow.
You can find How to with DMUactive content across our social media channels, on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook: DMUactive.
Emilie added: "It's been fantastic to see so much positivity surrounding the initiative and we would love to continue to hear what people are doing to look after their wellbeing during lockdown, just tag us in your post and use #KeepDMUactive.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the DMUactive activators, Active League activators, DMUactive instructors and DMU Leisure for all their hard work on helping to make this virtual offer possible."
