Research in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship
Research in the Department is at the forefront of understanding the lifecycle of organisations, from the entrepreneurial beginnings of the small or social enterprise through to their strategic development and growth, and through to the challenges of threats to their survival. The Department also hosts the Centre for Enterprise & Innovation (CEI) launched in 2018 with the aim of producing and sharing knowledge which advances transformative social value through entrepreneurship and innovation.
Our research is firmly rooted in organisations, their supply chains and networks. Sustainability, resilience, diversity and entrepreneurship are key focal points of our work. We shape policy and practice beyond the university, but equally important is the emphasis that we place on research informed teaching. If we research it we embed it into the teaching and learning experience, from undergraduates to doctoral students. Working across theory, policy and practice as an Open Knowledge Network, CEI is developing a global reputation and innovative approach, demonstrating impact through research in many ways.
Its members, partners and co-researchers are developing strong connections with regional, national and international researchers in universities, economic development, business, policy, and other networks. For example, the African Entrepreneurship Cluster connects with partners and institutions across the continent, which led to the first International Conference on African Entrepreneurship and Innovation in 2019.
We have internationally recognised experts in leadership, entrepreneurship education, and organizational resilience. We also have colleagues from across the department serving on a number of organisational and government advisory boards, conference and journal boards. The impact of our research, expertise and insights is evident locally, national and internationally.
