VC Student Blog: End of year message

Hi everyone,

For some of you reading this, it will be the end of an era as you finish your studies at DMU and start your next adventure. For others, it’s time to enjoy the summer break before returning to continue your course.

For those of you leaving us to start your next chapter – whether it be a graduate job, taking a well-deserved gap year or further study, I wish you all the very best for your future. Remember, you will always be part of the DMU family through our alumni team at DMU for Life. I am looking forward to seeing you at our amazing graduations in September, held at the Curve theatre in the city.

At DMU, we pride ourselves on supporting all of our students to gain experiences and opportunities to help you achieve your goals. I’d like to take some time to highlight the ways we can support you whether you are in your first, second or third year.

Our Careers Team has recently been named the best in the country at the targetjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards. You can benefit from the team’s employability initiatives such training and mentoring from industry experts, professional training resources, advice on CVs and interview techniques and funded internship opportunities.

CAREERS (1)

If you haven’t visited our Careers Hub yet, drop by the Hugh Aston Building where you’ll be able to meet our trained student peer mentors and practice presentation skills virtually using Bodyswaps VR technology.

If you’re thinking of staying local after graduating, Leicester is an excellent place to find work. DMU has been named one of Britain’s top 10 universities for supporting student and graduate start-ups for the third year running.

Our alumni are also very generous in supporting students, and there are many networking and career opportunities available through DMU for Life, including details of jobs fairs and expert advice.

I hope you all take full advantage of the support available.

Finally, I’d like to give a mention to all of the graduates who work so hard to put on end of year shows. I’m always so impressed by the sheer amount and range of talent we have here and I love to see the showcases of architecture, design, fashion and textiles, and the visual and performing arts subjects at the Festival of Creativity. If you get a chance to see any, please go along.

Best wishes,
