Help people with a learning disability feel seen during Learning Disability Week

Learning Disability Week is taking place from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 June. The annual awareness week hosted by Mencap shines a light on the realities and barriers of people living with a learning disability.

The theme for this year is ‘Do you see me?’ which is all about being seen, heard and valued.

To help staff and students get a better understanding and to celebrate the things people with a learning disability bring to society, the Learning Disability Nursing Team has invited local health and social care services to campus.

Stalls will be in the Hawthorn Building in the Undercroft from Monday to Thursday from 10am until 3pm. There is no need to book, just drop in.

Information and resources will be on offer from:

• Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust
• Adult Social Care services for Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland
• The Emergency Department at The Leicester Royal Infirmary
• The Boobettes from ‘Coppafeel!’ and local Bowel and Breast Screening service
• DMU Audiology, Paramedicine and SALT teams (to provide hearing exams and a look inside an ambulance)
• The DECODE research team
• Colleagues engaged in the STOMP agenda

Resources from these services will aim to educate staff and students around the needs of people with a learning disability.

People with a learning disability will be invited to attend on Wednesday 19.
