Opportunity to deliver session at COP26@DMU.

DMU is hosting a series of events to encourage staff and students to accelerate action towards reducing the impacts of climate change.

In the lead up to, and during, this year’s COP26 international climate talks taking place in Glasgow in early November, a calendar of events is being prepared to engage people in conversations, activities and learning that contributes to local and global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to future changes in climate.

We are looking for people to host events from early September right up to and alongside COP26, which runs from Nov 1 – 12.

Events and activities can be organised by students, staff and/or alumni and we welcome a wide range of contributions, which might relate to taught courses, DMU research, student societies, volunteering activities or otherwise. There is potential for some financial support via the DMULocal team or the DMU Seed Grants for SDGs programme (TBC).

In terms of your focus, you might choose to address one of the four themes of the COP26 talks, which are:

1. Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach
   
   
2. Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats
   
   
3. Mobilise finance
   
   
4. Working together

You might also focus on particular topics, such as those highlighted in Leicester’s Climate Emergency Strategy – Home; Travel and Transport; Work; Consumer Choices; Waste and Recycling; Land Use and Development.

COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and the summit in Glasgow will be attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – a treaty that came into force to address climate change in 1994.

This is an open call for events and we would encourage people to get as creative as possible with the activities they offer.
