The event was a staff and student collaboration, with BAL staff led by Dr Amarachi Amuago, Dr Bola Babajide and Jemima Duodu.

Student representation came for EnactusDMU society's Kushbu (Kush) Lad, Leseca Shantu, Tarnjeet Kaur and Amanat Chhina, as well as Sammy Gulliver from the DMU Mooting Society.

The Charity Day was the highlight of BAL's Community Week, which was organised to foster a greater sense of belonging and community amongst both staff and students.

Throughout the week, students had pop-up stands with lots of support available, as well as opportunities to interact with BAL staff members.

The Charity Day itself saw colleagues and students taking over the Hugh Aston Atrium for a day of charity giving, awareness campaigning and fun games.

These games were £1 each to play and designed by Kush, who also has a health sector background, to help with the understanding of varying levels of ableness.

All the events on the day were aimed at raising funds and awareness for Mind, BAL's chosen charity for 2021, and an impressive £121 was raised.

Chris Odindo, BAL Associate Professor Student Experience, said: "Given that mental health can adversely affect both staff and students, it was an easy decision to raise funds and awareness for Mind as they do a lot of wonderful work with young people and adults.

"All in all this was a hugely successful day thanks to colleagues, including staff from DMU central, and students who supported the day."
