On Sunday 23rd April at 3pm, the UK government will be trialling its new Emergency Alerts system, with a test alert being sent to all mobile phones and tablets.
A message, along with a sound and vibration, will be received for up to 10 seconds, and recipients will not need to take any further action. Devices on silent mode will still receive an audible alert.
If you are concerned that these alerts could put your safety at risk, Refuge has shared details of how to turn the alerts off and secure your devices.
Following the test, the system will only be used rarely during emergencies that cause an immediate risk to life.
More information on the alerts can be found on the government website.
