Bridges to Wellbeing

Help us to help you.

We need DMU students for an exciting mental health project.

DMU Wellbeing are pleased to be working in partnership with Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LPT) and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) on ‘Building to Bridges to Wellbeing’, an Office for Students (OfS) funded research project.

The project wants to increase the numbers of DMU students from certain geographical areas in the UK and/or BAME community:

  • Accessing wellbeing and mental health support from DMU Wellbeing
  • Accessing external specialist mental health support
  • Support students to feel in control of their mental health

For the purpose of this study, "certain areas of the UK" refers to students who have home addresses located within POLAR quintiles 1 and 2. Find out more on the Office for Students website.

To do this, DMU need students from certain areas in the UK and/or the BAME community to join in with the research project.

Any student who falls into the one or both of these categories can support the project; you do not need to have used DMU Wellbeing services such as SPA appointments or counselling before. DMU Wellbeing just want to hear your views.

  1. Why should I be involved?

Through participating in the project, you will get the opportunity to:

    • Influence the mental health support DMU offers
    • Shape how DMU works with external NHS partners
    • Discuss with the Wellbeing team what works, what doesn’t work and what might work

  2. How can I be involved?

The research project is new and DMU Wellbeing need students to take part in a range of engagement activity until Spring 2023. Examples of activities include; surveys, workshops, focus groups and 1-1 discussion.

The first engagement activity is a survey that can be accessed online.

Any student who falls into the one or both of the categories below can support the research project, it doesn’t matter if you have used DMU Wellbeing services e.g. SPA appointments or counselling before or not. DMU Wellbeing just want to hear your views.

  3. What will I need to do?

Following your consent to take part in this project, we will ask you to participate in as many sessions as you can, out of two Focus Groups, two Workshops and an Evaluation Survey. Each Focus Group or Workshop is 90 minutes in length and will be conducted on the university campus – we will also be holding an online session for each. It is your choice whether to take part in this project. If you do decide to take part, you will be given an information sheet to keep, and asked to sign a consent form. You can chose to withdraw your consent and will not have to give a reason.

  4. What are the Focus Groups and Workshops like?

Focus Groups and Workshops are informal groups in which we will discuss with you of the outcomes of the initial survey. They will then involve some fact-finding and discussions about your experiences of wellbeing support at DMU and the NHS. Hearing about your lived experience is of utmost importance – good or bad. We will then be looking to co-create certain elements of the service, such as reviewing referral pathways and designing information sharing tools. You do not have to have experience of accessing DMU or NHS services regarding your wellbeing. We just want to hear your views.
