We are making your DMU login process simpler and safer

As part of DMU’s Digital Transformation processes, we’re improving how you sign in to university systems. As we use more cloud services, it’s vital to protect the information stored in them.

We’ve been working to make signing in simpler, enabling you to access many of DMU’s applications with a single login through Microsoft 365. This modernises and streamlines our digital working, while making sure the technology behind it is secure.

In 2020, we added multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect Microsoft 365 services (like Teams, Outlook and OneDrive) when you access them off campus. This extra security step helps protect both your personal data and the university’s digital services.

We’re now extending MFA to cover all cloud-based applications that use our Single Sign-On system, including Learning Zone, our virtual learning environment. This will start for staff in the week commencing Monday 24 February and for students from the week commencing Monday 3 March.

This upgrade ensures that DMU meets Cyber Essentials standards (the government-backed certification scheme), which we need to deliver key research and teaching activities.

Since you’re already using MFA with Microsoft 365, you’ll find this extension straightforward. You’ll only need to verify your identity with MFA when working off campus, and if you’re already signed in to Microsoft 365 on your device, you won’t need to verify again for each new application.

Setting up MFA is simple. If you need any help, please contact the ITMS Service Desk.
