We are absolutely delighted to announce some exciting news for our final year students – DMU graduations will take place later this year!*
Over the past 12 months we have all had to deal with ongoing challenges and uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our students have been faced with a truly unprecedented experience as a result and we are so proud of how you have all continued to thrive and achieve so much.
We have had to make some very tough decisions due to Covid-19 in order to keep our students and staff as safe as possible and it was with great reluctance that we postponed our July Graduation ceremonies, which are one of the highlights of the year for our community. We are now finalising the details of our ceremonies and can look forward to their return where our students will experience a unique and unforgettable day of graduation celebration.
For students who would usually be graduating in July 2021, that is, have successfully passed their course since 1 December 2020 and received their results by 15 July 2021, we are planning a full in-person ceremony to take place from the week commencing Monday 15 November 2021 through to Saturday 20 November. For students who have not passed their course by this deadline due to resits or deferrals, you will be invited to your graduation ceremony in January 2022 and we will release more information about this very soon.
Our ceremonies will take place in spectacular style at the award-winning Curve Theatre in Leicester in the heart of the city’s vibrant Cultural Quarter. The theatre is home to an inspiring and diverse programme of musicals, plays, dance and opera and will be transformed into a stunning graduation venue. We have taken the decision to relocate ceremonies so that the teaching timetable is not impacted by large scale events on campus. We have held our graduation ceremonies at the Curve Theatre in previous years and we know our students will have the most amazing day of celebration.
Our booking system will open at 12 noon on 3 August 2021 and you will receive an invitation giving full details of how to book your place at your graduation ceremony. Invites will be sent via email and we will release further details through all of our usual communications channels, so please make sure you check in with our student webpages and social media channels regularly. Please do not make any travel or accommodation arrangements at this stage.
We also want to reassure our previous graduates from July 2020 and January 2021 graduation ceremonies that you are not forgotten. We are now working on planning how we can give you an amazing in-person experience too and will let you know our plans as soon as we can.
*Please note that November ceremonies will take place subject to prevailing UK Government national and/or local guidance in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic and large scale indoor events and our assessment of risk regarding the safety of the DMU graduation community. As such we recommend that you do not make any non-refundable travel or accommodation bookings and respectfully remind our students and guests of their responsibility for all bookings made in these circumstances.
If the University’s graduation ceremonies are postponed due to Covid-19 we will notify all graduands as soon as feasibly possible and will keep all social media channels regularly updated.
