Due to the UK government’s latest advice to delay the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), DMU and the University of Leicester have jointly taken the decision to cancel all Varsity fixtures from Thursday 19 March to Wednesday 25 March.
We realise this might be disappointing at short notice, but the health and safety of our community must always be our highest priority. This also means no fixtures will be rearranged or held ‘behind closed doors’. Both universities are saddened that they’ve had to make such a difficult decision.
We would like to reassure you that we have no confirmed cases at DMU and the situation on campus regarding COVID-19 is unchanged. We have taken this decision in light of national and international developments over the past 24 hours. DMU continues to follow the latest advice from Public Health England and we will keep you all informed of any other developments that affect you as students.
Tickets purchased online for the rugby union fixtures at Welford Road will be refunded directly. Information about refunds of physical tickets will be released by DMUsport and De Montfort Students’ Union in due course.
Regular sports training, British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) fixtures, DMUactive sessions and leagues, sports tournaments and the DMUsport Awards have also been cancelled.
