Our technicians

More details

At De Montfort University (DMU) we recognise and value the work of our technical staff and the contribution they make to our teaching provision, research and enterprise. We welcomed the opportunity to sign up to the Technician Commitment in 2018 so that we can demonstrate our pledge as an institution to this vital group of staff.

We launched the Commitment in November 2018 (DMU staff link) and submitted a self-assessment and 24-month action plan in May 2019. We are currently implementing the Stage 2 36-month action plan, and our progress and achievements will be self-evaluated and a report submitted in May 2024.

We are now at Stage 3 and have, in July 2024, submitted our latest self-assessment and a new 36-month action plan 2024-2027.  View the Stage 3 submission.

Professor Shushma Patel, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, is the Chair of the Technician Commitment Steering Group at DMU and is “delighted to be leading the strategic development of the Commitment at DMU. In so many areas, our excellent technical staff are vital to the delivery of the Learning for Life theme of our strategy and our ambitions in knowledge creation and exchange. As an empowering university, we strive to ensure that all of our staff and students flourish and we see support for the Technician Commitment as an important part of our approach.
