Mandatory placements

A number of undergraduate courses at DMU have a mandatory placement element embedded into them.

There is no better way for students to acquire relevant skills than through work-based learning. Placements are designed for students to develop subject-related and professional competencies, plus a range of transferable skills and an insight into work culture. Placements are an ideal opportunity for students to gain work experience, as well as being able to apply the theories that they have learnt into real life practical situations.

Placement duration varies dependant on the course from a few hours, to days or weeks. Mandatory placements are a vital element of the course, meeting the requirements of the accrediting governing bodies, and specific learning outcomes to demonstrate practical application.

Each faculty has its own work-based learning/placement unit who help students with all aspects of the placement process, from sourcing placement vacancies with a wide variety of organisations to supporting you whilst you are out on placement.
