What does 'subject to validation' mean?

What does it mean when a course is ‘subject to validation’?

All courses go through a rigorous approval stage by either our internal Academic Board or the relevant external degree-awarding body – this process is known as ‘validation’. When a course is ‘subject to validation’, it means that the contents of the course are in the last stage of the validation process and are awaiting final approval by either our internal Academic Board or the relevant external degree-awarding body. 

Why do you advertise courses that are ‘subject to validation’ if there is a risk that they might not run or the course content might be significantly amended?

It is rare that courses that we advertise that are ‘subject to validation’ do not receive final validation by either our internal Academic Board or the relevant degree-awarding body, but it can happen. 

The reason we advertise courses that are ‘subject to validation’ is to give you as much choice as possible when deciding on the right course to apply for, and to hopefully give you the opportunity to start your higher education on the right course for you, at the earliest opportunity.  At De Montfort University, we are continually updating our courses in line with industry developments and practices, and adding new courses to our portfolio. We do this to ensure that the course content is relevant and meets industry standards to give you the best opportunity to be a work-ready graduate with professional experience and industry skills.

In the event that you have been made an offer on a course that was ‘subject to validation’ when you applied but which is subsequently unable to run or the content of the course is so significantly amended, you will be contacted by the university to discuss your options, which could include studying a different course.
