While much progress has been made to improve the health of millions of people, more work is required to achieve health and wellbeing for all, at every stage of life. One of the drivers of the Leicester Institute for Pharmaceutical & Health Innovations is the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, SDG 3 which highlights the need to address all major health priorities, including reproductive, maternal and child health; communicable, non-communicable and environmental diseases; universal health coverage; and access for all to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines and vaccines.
Driven by societal strategic priorities, the institute unites research expertise and scholarly activity across several fields: Pharmaceutical Technologies, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Biomedical and Forensic Science for lab-based research, as well as Pharmacy Practice, Allied Health, Nursing and Midwifery for healthcare practice research.
The focus of this work is to promote step changes in standards of pharmaceutical products and process design, drug discovery and health interventions.
The values of this research fully align with other United Nation’s SDGs including ‘Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Quality Education’, ‘Industry innovation and Infrastructure’ to ‘Peace Justice and Strong Institutions’.
