What you will study

Block 1 - Leadership and Business Sustainability

This interactive module delves into the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of leadership and business sustainability, encouraging debate, discussion, and analysis. You will explore key issues organisations face in leading, managing, and developing talent within the context of sustainability. The module examines how businesses can contribute to a sustainable, responsible, and equitable world, addressing challenges such as corporate responsibility, governance, and the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

You’ll develop a deeper understanding of leadership and motivation, cross-cultural leadership, and organisational culture, while applying critical thinking to challenge existing theories. Case studies and real-world examples provide practical insights into the impact of sustainability on leadership practices and business strategies.

Block 1, 3 or 4: Carbon Literacy Training

This module provides you with eight hours of engaging training to become carbon literate, empowering you with the knowledge and motivation to reduce carbon emissions on personal, community, and organisational levels. Carbon literacy involves understanding the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and learning actionable strategies to reduce these emissions.

Throughout the module, you’ll cover essential topics such as climate science, calculating your carbon footprint, climate justice, and effective communication about sustainability. You’ll also explore the benefits of carbon literacy accreditation, a valuable asset for graduate employability in today’s environmentally conscious job market. The module features interactive, enjoyable activities, including quizzes and group discussions, to solidify your understanding and foster meaningful engagement with climate issues.

Learning outcomes include demonstrating awareness of carbon impacts and explaining your motivation and capability to reduce emissions. Both are assessed through a written report, or “pledge,” that captures your commitment to sustainable practices and your understanding of carbon reduction strategies.

Block 2: Advanced Strategic Management

In today’s dynamic environment, a holistic understanding of strategy is essential. Through case studies and practical sessions, you will apply real-world solutions, highlighting the impact of responsible leadership on organisational sustainability. Block 5: Business Finance and Enterprise Development

This module equips you with the knowledge and skills to make informed business and financial decisions. You’ll explore core concepts like the time value of money, risk and return, capital structure, and financial markets. Emphasising analytical and numerical skills, the module also develops your ability to interpret financial statements, evaluate business performance through financial ratios, and present well-argued recommendations.

Through hands-on experience, you’ll learn how to approach enterprise creatively and entrepreneurially. From identifying opportunities to creating innovative solutions, the module focuses on taking calculated risks, driving change, and positively impacting businesses, communities, and society. You’ll gain practical insights into enterprise formation across various stages of business development, applying your skills to industry settings, freelancing, or business ownership.

By the end, you’ll have the tools to critically analyse financial scenarios, respond to diverse business challenges, and apply entrepreneurial strategies to foster business growth and success.

Block 6: Consultancy Project

This module offers you the choice of a project based on either a live company or a simulated business scenario. Seminars in the first week will provide you with the essential skills, methods, and guidance to successfully complete your project.

Your project will focus on innovation, such as improving or developing business processes, models, products, or services. You’ll work individually or in groups of four or five to critically evaluate complex business situations, propose evidence-based solutions, and justify your recommendations through an action plan.

Throughout the module, you’ll enhance your ability to conduct research, analyse data, and make informed decisions in uncertain environments. By the end, you’ll have developed the expertise to address real business challenges, apply academic principles, and reflect on your role as a consultant, ready to succeed in dynamic professional settings.

Structure

The Global MBA with Responsible Leadership at DMU London provides a comprehensive approach to leadership, sustainability, and strategic management in the international business landscape. In Leadership and Business Sustainability, you’ll explore how businesses can contribute to a more responsible and sustainable world. This interactive module, assessed through an essay and individual presentation, uses real-world examples to help you develop strategies that align business goals with social responsibility. Meanwhile, the Carbon Literacy Training module, assessed by a reflective report, builds your understanding of climate science and sustainable practices, equipping you to reduce carbon emissions at individual, community, and organisational levels.

Further into the programme, modules like Advanced Strategic Management and Cross-cultural Management and Marketing deepen your understanding of organisational strategy and international marketing. Through hands-on project management exercises and case studies, you’ll learn to navigate complex, multicultural business environments and create culturally sensitive marketing strategies. Finally, the course’s Consultancy Project module offers real-world application of the skills developed throughout the MBA. This experience, culminating in a 3,000-word report and a viva, enhances your research and analysis capabilities, preparing you for dynamic consultancy roles. Contact hours

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, group work and self-directed study, all using our unique block teaching approach. On campus teaching will take place over two days per week, allowing students to plan their week and workloads. You will also undertake independent study to complete project work and research.

Entry requirements

Typical entry requirements

Applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject with a minimum pass of 2:2, or equivalent overseas qualification or a minimum of five years of managerial work experience or equivalent. A professional qualification or other deemed to be of equivalent standing will be considered on an individual basis.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band (or equivalent) when you start the course is essential. Online English Language tuition, delivered by our British Council-accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course if you need it.
