Mr Mike Kapur joined the University’s Board of Governors in 2009 serving as both a Governor and Deputy Chairman until his final term ended in 2018. He also served as a Trustee on De Montfort University Students Union from 2012 to 2017 and his association with DMU dates back to when he graduated from the then Leicester Polytechnic in 1985 with an Honours Degree in Accounting and Computing.
Mike is a leading Leicestershire businessman who has 25 successful years of board room experience in both private and public sector organisations. He is a Chartered Accountant, having had successful careers at both KPMG and Ernst & Young, before taking a role as Group Finance Director in Industry.
He is currently Founder & Director, Signum Corporate Communications; Chairman of the National Space Centre; and Chairman of Leicester City Football Club Community Trust.
Mike has always been a strong advocate of public service and is a Trustee of Warning Zone, National Forest Company, and Derby College Group. Formerly, he was Chairman of the CBI’s SME Council, Deputy Chairman of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and a Trustee of National Learning & Work Institute.
He served as a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire from 2015 before being appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire by Her Majesty The Queen in 2018, and in 2017 was made an OBE for Services to Science, Technology, Business & Enterprise in The Queens centenary Birthday Honours List.
