Confucius Institute holds a welcome session for the new director


On March 20th, 2023, The USTB-DMU (De Montfort University) Confucius Institute (CI) held a grand welcome session for the newly appointed Director, Professor GU Wei from the USTB School of Foreign Studies. All staff and the CI coordinator (UK side) Anna Wang attended the meeting.

During the welcome session, Anna Wang and 11 teachers at the CI introduced the basic information and reported on their work to Prof. GU Wei. In turn, Prof. GU Wei gave a brief self-introduction and put forward a series of suggestions for the improvement of everyone's report, hoping that everyone could take advantage of their respective strengths to elevate the CI’s academic performance to a higher level. In addition, with the Easter holiday approaching, Prof. GU Wei told all teachers to be careful when traveling and report their itineraries timely. Prof. GU also prepared Chinese traditional round silk fans for each teacher as a little gift, and everyone was thrilled about it.

After the gift-giving session, eight CI teachers presented a well-choreographed group dance and a Tai Chi Fan Dance. Ms. WU Xinwen, a CI teacher, performed the Guzheng "Battling the Typhoon", Ms. ZHANG Gaoyang performed the Chinese classical dance "Old Dream", and Ms. ZHAO Xiaoke an excerpt from the Huangmei Opera "The Female Prince Consort". The splendid talent show of the CI teacher has deeply impressed Prof. GU and has also increased her confidence in the future work of the CI.

In the end, the teacher retention work and the upcoming 9th USTB-DMU anniversary celebration were put on the agenda. Everyone is looking forward to a more promising future for USTB-DMU CI under the new leadership of Director GU Wei.
