DMU alumni produce new adaptation of classic play

DMU alumni Paul Gosling and Liza Mortimer are collaborating to produce a new adaptation of the classic adventure tale, The Scarlet Pimpernel this September at Leicester's historic Guildhall venue.

Paul, who gained a PhD in Film Adaptation from DMU, formed his own video and theatrical production company, Crooked Hand Productions in 2012 and has produced documentaries, music promos and independent films since then, contributing to DMU's Cultural Exchanges in 2015-2017.

Liza is a graduate of DMU's BA Dance programme, who also holds an MA in Performance Practices. She has collaborated with the Fuelled Dance Theatre group and also made a short documentary for Channel 4 regarding her own traveller community heritage.

This is their second collaborative project, following a interpretive dance performance of Steve Hackett's Corycian Fire for Cultural Exchanges in 2015.
"We're co-directing this new adaptation of Pimpernel and really playing off each others' strengths - Liza is bringing in her expertise in movement and dance, whilst I'm focusing on the look and sound of the show", explained Paul.

Liza added: "Although the story is well-known, we've added a comic twist to it all and actually found that even though the story is set in the Regency period, it still has a lot to say about attitudes today - it's a really relevant piece for now."

The One-Act Play will be performed on Thursday 23rd and Fri 24th September at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions).
