The School of Fashion and Textiles offers a range of options at postgraduate level, both taught and research based, with access to a wide range of facilities for both textiles and fashion design.
These options build further on the undergraduate portfolio, and are constantly being expanded further to meet demand.
The Fashion and Bodywear MA programme offers a unique fusion of fashion and contour aesthetics. It builds on the School’s unique skills in contour fashion, lingerie, corsetry and swimwear, enabling the student to develop innovative and creative garments using skills from each discipline. No other masters programme in the world has such a focus on contour design, and it attracts students from the UK and around the world. Graduates have progressed to designer brands such as Alexander McQueen, and established their own labels.
The MA Fashion Management with Marketing is the latest postgraduate programme to be offered within the School. It is entirely theory based, and refers to the management of the fashion industry, from e-commerce, to ethical fashion, to strategic fashion marketing. It is designed to appeal to graduates from a wide range of disciplines, not only fashion design.
With a wealth of staff expertise, the School accepts research degree applications for a wide range of subjects. Recent completions have included studies on shape retention bras, protective clothing and technical textiles.
There is also the opportunity to pursue a master’s route by independent study, with the most recent graduates working on printed textile design.
