Our programmes include; Design Crafts, Product Design, Interior Design, Furniture Design and Product & Furniture Design. These programmes are normally three years long; however students can choose to extend their degree through studying overseas for a year at a European university, funded by the Erasmus programme. Our curricula’s emphases on employability are paramount and so in addition to their studies, students can opt to undertake a year’s placement, working within the design industry, to develop their professional skills and commercial awareness.

The school collaborates with the Faculty of Technology to offer  Product Design BSc (Hons) – a technically focussed programme that more formally combines design with technology and which is accredited to the IED (Institute of Engineering Designers). The programme runs over three years or four with a funded year in industry. These placements encompass positions in Leicester consultancies and international companies such as BMW in Germany and often lead to graduate employment.

Further choice is offered through a four-year MDes programme in either Interior Design or Design Products. Both programmes parallel the BA curricula for much of the first three years before enhancing students’ design and professional practice skills in the final year via a business studies and advanced technology modules, plus a short industrial placement. The MDes programmes are distinct in that they allow students to attain Master’s qualification as part of one undergraduate course and with an undergraduate fee structure.

As students progress through their studies and develop more focussed interests they can elect to change between certain programmes at different points throughout the year; so if after two years on a BA course, a work placement or a four-year Masters programme becomes a more appropriate career choice, a students can with guidance from staff, apply to make this change.
