The School of Design has a vibrant postgraduate community with over 70 students studying design and 20 undertaking MPhil or PhD research programmes.
Our postgraduate programmes fall into two distinct areas; design practice and design management. Both are defined by their multidisciplinary approach to design and recognise the importance of design practitioners and managers working together on a range of design activities.
Masters programmes are offered in Product Design, Interior Design and Design Innovation. Whilst Product and Interior Design offer the opportunity to extend students’ in-depth knowledge of a specific area, Design Innovation involves the study of a broader range of design subjects. Students will benefit from sharing multidisciplinary activities on all programmes and from the school’s multi-cultural approach to design.
The Design Management and Entrepreneurship MA examines the key issues involved in the management of design processes and the role of design as a strategic business tool in the creative industries. Students will study modules on brand management, service design, business planning and research methods. Successful graduates go on to manage design teams and design processes in industry or even start up their own business in the creative industries.
All of our programmes benefit from leading facilities and a dedicated team of academics and technicians. Much of our postgraduate curricula are shaped by the research that our staff and students undertake and in particular through the school’s 20 PhD students who are researching a diverse range of design subjects.
