The university is also committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for others who may be affected by its activities such as students, contractors and visitors to the university.
The Occupational Health and Safety Department consists of three health and safety officers, an occupational health nurse and three support staff. We aim to provide a professional, high quality occupational health and safety service to staff and students.
We work with faculties, institutes and support departments to adopt a positive approach to accident prevention by identifying, eliminating and controlling hazards.
We promote co-operation between individuals, safety reps. and groups so that health and safety at DMU becomes a collaborative effort. We do this through:
All user emails
Posters and notices
Attending faculty/department health and safety committees
Technical support - noise surveys, ergonomic assessments, emergency response team (chemical spills etc)
Staff training programme to meet the needs of DMU (course styles offered include attendance, online and e-learning).
Encourage faculties, institutes and support departments to make basic safety awareness training part of the induction/probabtion process.
Work and wellbeing
We offer advice to staff on areas such as life style, diet and stress management.
The Occupational Health Nurse offers questionnaires and detailed analysis in:
