De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) saw the country’s second-biggest growth in transnational education (TNE) students last year.
More students than ever are choosing to study with DMU at one of the university’s many collaborative partners across the world.

According to new figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), more than 3,500 new students began studying on DMU courses outside the UK during the academic year 2023-2024.
These TNE courses are delivered through partnerships with other global institutions to deliver DMU courses. In addition, DMU also has teaches students at its overseas campuses such as DMU Dubai, DMU Kazakhstan and DMU Cambodia.
Simon Bradbury, DMU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor International, said this growth was set to continue.
He said: “This rise shows the reputation of UK higher education is still very high around the world.
“DMU has been delivering high quality teaching around the world, through transnational education, for more than 30 years and the areas we are currently seeing the most active growth – Niels Brock Business College in Denmark and Asia Pacific University in Malaysia – are some of our longest-standing partnerships.
“Our whole approach with TNE is to build partnerships with purpose, not simply teaching students but sharing research and academic expertise with partners, extending the work we do in Leicester outwards and learning from them in return.
“This growth shows us our approach works.”
Having started TNE provision in 1993, DMU currently has more than 12,000 students studying for a DMU award in places like Vietnam, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
It has opened branch campuses in Dubai, Kazakhstan and Cambodia and each year, runs a summer school on its Leicester campus, inviting students around the world at different TNE partner institutions to Leicester to take part in a programme of workshops, sessions and field trips.
These aim to enrich studies, broaden cultural horizons, develop key skills and a shared understanding of global citizenship.
