DMU builds on Dubai success with move to new campus

De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) is to move its Dubai campus to a new location, offering students higher quality teaching areas and facilities. 

The new premises sit right in the centre of Dubai’s Internet City, alongside firms like Google, HP, LinkedIn, Microsoft and Facebook.

The striking new campus is a stand-alone facility of 85,000 square feet and will serve up to around 3,000 students.  

It features: 

• State of the art new teaching spaces designed to maximise the benefit of our innovative block teaching approach 

• Open plan ground floor which will include student services, informal areas, cafeteria opening onto landscaped areas, employability hub and workshops 

• Library with views to the palm enabling students to find quiet space to study 

• Computing, psychology and engineering laboratories 

Simon Bradbury, DMU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor International, said the move will give DMU Dubai students not only better facilities but greater employability opportunities. 

He said: “This is a significant move for us and will only further establish the commitment we’ve made in Dubai since moving here. 

“This new campus offers students an inspiring building in which to learn, a very high standard of teaching facilities and technology and a well-connected central location. 

“Being in Internet City gives us the ability to form new partnerships with some of the world’s biggest companies, offering students the chance to gain invaluable experience in the careers they choose. 

“But the campus is also designed as a supportive environment in which students can learn and spend time. We have taken great care to make sure that with things, like classrooms, the employability hub, workshops and library ensures that the experience of studying with us supports and empowers them to begin the career they want.” 

Since it opened in 2021, DMU Dubai has welcomed nearly 1,200 students, offering a range of courses at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate level. Subjects include business, law, fashion, cyber security and psychology and are all taught by highly-skilled lecturers. 

As part of the DMU family, DMU Dubai students are taught under the university’s innovative block teaching model, which sees modules taught one at a time, rather than simultaneously. 

This allows students to focus more fully on each area, concluding it with an assessment, before moving on to the next, providing faster, more comprehensive feedback at each point. 

The new campus is set to open in September 2024.
