A group of giant glowing monsters have dominated buildings across Leicester City Centre, including De Montfort University, Leicester (DMU) campus.
The nine inflatable creatures - up to 8 metres (25ft) in size - form a fun free trail around the city in the run up to Halloween - and peeking over DMU’s iconic Vijay Patel Building is ‘Groaner’.
The playful monsters will invade the city centre for two weeks (16-31 October), creeping over Leicester’s most iconic landmarks, with giant claws over rooftops and illuminations coming to life after dark to cast a spooky glow across the streets of Leicester.
The creators of these larger-than-life magical monsters are talented artists Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas, and presented into a trail by BID Leicester, Highcross Leicester and Leicester City Council.
DMU’s Director of Engagement, Sarah Thomson said: “DMU is delighted to be hosting a monster on our iconic Vijay Patel building for the duration of the Monster Invasion.
“We hope that the monsters will create a fun and exciting trail for people to explore during October. DMU is delighted to be working with Leicester BID and the City Council to bring these projects to life.”
To aid explorers in navigating the trail, a digital map is available for easy access. For those who prefer a physical map, these are available from points across the city centre, including the Customer Service Desk in Highcross, Visit Leicester, located opposite the Cathedral, or Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, formerly New Walk Museum.
The monster invasion trail is designed to be fully accessible, with short distances between each location, ensuring that visitors of all ages can enjoy the experience.
Those with a passion for photography can use their skills to upload their monster snaps to social media, using the hashtag #LeicesterMonsters, for a chance to win a £100 prize. Participants in the trail will also have the opportunity, to scan QR codes at each location, and by finding every monster along the way, they will be entered into a prize draw.
