A new series of events to help businesses achieve their net zero goals is to kick off at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU).

Sustainability Rox will feature sector-specific events across sustainable design, transport, energy solutions, oceanography and sport. The series will provide businesses with the knowledge and resources they need to make a positive impact on the environment and the economy.

The first major event in the series focuses on Sustainable Design and is in partnership with DMU. The Leicester campus event takes place on 5 March 2024 and will present ideas, solutions and practical steps to help all types of businesses move forward for green growth.

The ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) festival will host a range of networking and collaboration opportunities, as well as strategic workshops with industry leading practitioners to help businesses, refine, update and empower colleague communities with their ESG strategic goals.

DMU is one of the top 50 of universities in the world for sustainability and the only UK university to be a hub for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sustainable Design is a core focus for DMU, which this year launched its Fashion and Textiles Business Hub to showcase the university’s skills in textile testing, sustainable fashion and digital design.

Professor Christine White, Deputy Dean, Arts, Design and Humanities at DMU said: “We have a wealth of sustainable design industry experience here at DMU which we are keen to share with companies.

“All companies are facing huge challenges with net zero emissions targets, supply chains, the need to minimise extraction of raw materials and reducing the amount of materials sent to landfill.

“Responsible sourcing, adoptions of new technologies and how to produce fibres from materials that do not damage the planet, greenwashing, new product design – we’re here to help whether through innovation projects, consultancy or working with our students. Our Sustainable Design event at Sustainability ROX, will present ideas, solutions and practical steps to help all types of businesses move forward for green growth.”
