A top engineering college in Sri Lanka has signed a new partnership with De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), giving students the chance to study abroad and gain an internationally recognised degree.
The Skills College of Technology (SCOT) – a dedicated training arm for Sri Lankan education provider Skills International – is working with DMU to offer degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Construction and the Built Environment.
This exciting collaboration means hundreds of students will benefit from the combined expertise of two world-leading institutes for engineering and technology.
DMU’s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM) is at the forefront of developing new technologies for industries including transport, healthcare, construction, and robotics, working closely with global businesses such as Airbus, Deloitte and Rolls-Royce.

Meanwhile SCOT – an approved centre of the prestigious City & Guilds and Pearson’s qualification bodies – has an annual intake of 2,000 students enrolled in a range of engineering disciplines.
It is strongly supported by Sri Lanka’s Department of Technical Education & Training, as well as the Open University of Sri Lanka.
“This agreement is a prime example of our commitment to expand DMU’s global network and form strong and sustainable partnerships with leading overseas organisations,” said Professor David Mba, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise) and Dean of CEM.
“Forging this significant partnership with SCOT means we have the opportunity to exchange skills and knowledge with a highly regarded international engineering college, while welcoming more Sri Lankan students to our diverse and inclusive university in the heart of Leicester.”
Those who enrol on the DMU-accredited courses at SCOT will gain a Level 6 ‘top-up’ degree – a model widely available throughout Sri Lanka through partnerships between Sri Lankan colleges and UK franchise partners.
Academics from DMU and SCOT will deliver a two-way curriculum, while there will also be staff and student exchange programmes and DMU Global opportunities.
