More than 850 De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) students are today beginning a once-in-a-lifetime exploration of Berlin.
Today is the first full day of activities in this month’s epic #DMUglobal visit to the German capital, which will see people studying on nearly 35 courses take part in academic trips and experiences simply unavailable to tourists.
Among the visits taking place during the day, Mechanical Engineering students will visit the famous BMW Motorcycle Factory, gaining a true insight into how one of the world’s leading automobile makers creates its iconic bikes.
Fashion Buying students will explore the city’s vast Mitte area, taking in some its iconic sights, like the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, seat of German political power.
Meanwhile students on the Audiology course will get an insight into world-leading tinnitus research and ear, nose and throat treatment techniques at the Charite teaching hospital, while Law students will visit the European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights.

DMU visits Berlin to show that UK higher education is still open for business
With a city so full of profound modern world history, Psychology students will be able to try and understand why and how the Holocaust took place and why it still matters today. They will visit the Jewish Museum and, in the afternoon, the House of Wannsee Conference where the Nazis planned the operation.
Across the city, while those studying Youth Work and Community Development will spend the day helping at community groups Project Gangway and Berliner Aids-Hilfe.
This extraordinary visit is the biggest of kind in Europe and follows January’s huge visit to New York, when more than 1,000 students made lifelong memories in the Big Apple, giving their studies an unmatchable real-world dimension.
During the visit – which lasts until Friday - DMU will on Wednesday hold an event at the British Embassy, where DMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dominic Shellard will join Sir Sebastian Woods, UK Ambassador to Germany and students studying at the university to address an audience on the benefits of international education and the importance of working to build relationship across Europe.
