LIPC, which opened in the summer of 2014 at the heart of the DMU campus, helps prepare international students for DMU degree programmes. It has seen a surge in the number of students enrolling from all corners of the world with 58 different nationalities now represented.

Pavaris Jothikasthira successfully completed LIPC’s International First Year (IFY) programme in 2014/15 – the equivalent of a first year of study at undergraduate level but with specially-designed academic modules and English language support –  before moving on to study Mechatronics BEng (Hons) at DMU where he has now achieved a degree with first-class honours.

Pavaris, whose graduation ceremony was on Saturday, praised LIPC for helping him to build up his confidence with the English language and the academic system here while also assisting him with his engineering studies.

The 23-year-old said: “The teachers at LIPC are very close to your studies and it is easy to ask them any questions. I feel great to be among the first group of IFY students to graduate because LIPC gave me so many opportunities and very much helped me every step of the way with my studies.

“I will recommend LIPC to my friends because the college helped me so much and the teachers there are very nice and friendly.”

Pavaris is one of eight students who are part of this first cohort of LIPC students graduating this summer after starting life at DMU on the International First Year programme.

Mechatronics students at DMU often go on to forge careers in the aerospace, automotive, defence and energy sectors as well as the large manufacturing or domestic/consumer products industries. Pavaris is staying on at DMU to study for a Master’s. “I am now looking forward to studying MSc Mechatronics Engineering” he added.
