Video shows students' 'awe-inspiring' #DMUglobal trip to The Gambia
A new video has been produced showing the life-changing experiences De Montfort University (DMU) students enjoyed when they went to The Gambia with the pioneering #DMUglobal scheme.
Students travelled to Africa’s smallest country in January with #DMUglobal and Global Hands UK, helping out on development projects and gaining valuable work experience.
#DMUglobal is the university’s pioneering programme giving students the opportunity to get the international experience they need to help their future career.
The video tells the story of the trip and features stories from some of the students who made the journey as well as what they took away from their experience.
They also talk about what they learned from the trip plus the experience of being welcomed by and dancing with the local people, learning the language and helping on development projects in schools and villages.
Gracie Smith, a Youth Work and Community Development student, was one of those who made the journey. She said: “I would describe this trip as transformative, motivational and a lot of fun.”
Meanwhile, Boston Williams, a Music Technology student, ran a workshop for the Global Hands Gambia team on Literary Excellence with fellow student Jahvan Fridye-Harper on a Computing Foundation.
Boston said: “It was an awe-inspiring session. The young Gambian writers are full of such passion and drive. The lessons I learned in project delivery will inform my future practice as a creative practitioner.”
