Hundreds of Business students have graduated from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) in Hong Kong. The graduates were from DMU’s partner university, the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE), based at City University Hong Kong.
And this year the celebrations were extra special as the event marked the 20th anniversary of the partnership between CityU SCOPE and DMU’s Faculty of Business and Law.
Since 1995 some 4,500 students have graduated from DMU in Hong Kong and the collaboration goes from strength to strength. Today there are more than 700 students studying for DMU degrees at SCOPE.
In the latest graduation ceremony, more than 400 students collected their degrees in BA (Hons) Business Administration Management or BA (Hons) Public Administration and Management.
The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Collop. Students were presented with their degrees by Professor Cillian Ryan, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, and Dr Louis Ma, Director of SCOPE.
Professor Ryan said: “It was a pleasure to meet the graduands, their family and friends and their academic tutors.
“The graduation ceremony was additionally significant because it marked 20 years of our collaboration with SCOPE and I was delighted to be able to welcome alumni and staff to a 20 year celebration that we held on the evening of the graduation ceremony.
“This provided an opportunity to reflect on the excellent progress that both universities have made over the years and the impact that the degrees have had on the alumni.”
Also from DMU were Peter McHardy, principal lecturer in creativity and innovation; Marcus Warren, acting head of Leicester Business School, and Professor Alasdair Blair, head of the Department of Politics and Public Policy.
Professor Blair said: “It was particularly lovely to see the students graduate whom we had met on previous visits to SCOPE, which also included a memorable visit in February this year when students from the Department of Politics and Public Policy at DMU in Leicester took part in joint teaching activities with their counterparts at SCOPE as part of a #DMUglobal trip.”
