A big welcome to the new students from around the world who have just started at De Montfort University’s (DMU) Leicester International Pathway College (LIPC).
The college, which opened in June 2014, is providing pathways for international students to prepare them for entry to DMU degree programmes.
Proving a popular choice, the college has welcomed more than 130 students on to pathway programmes from 26 countries including South Korea, Kuwait, Cyprus and Kenya.
The new arrivals have just joined the International Incorporated Master’s (IIM) programme, preparing them for art, design and business postgraduate study at DMU.
Italian student Sara Ferrari has just started the IIM in Business at LIPC and will progress to MA Fashion Management with Marketing later this year.
Sara said: “I think the campus is really nice. It’s really exciting because it looks like the campuses I have seen in the movies!
“The lessons have a good structure because you are involved and can understand, and the teachers are really communicative.
“I heard about this university and especially its reputation for fashion, so I wanted to study here. Also, I was living in London before and Leicester is much cheaper.
“I am really excited to start the MA in September.”
Chen Dong arrived from China last week, and will be progressing to MA International Business and Human Resource Management after he completes his IIM at the college.
Chen said: “It’s very good here and the people are very friendly. I was working in a HR related role for an insurance company in China before. I wanted more of a challenge and to improve myself, so I came here to study more.”
Nigerian student Rose Iliya, who will be joining the MA International Business and Management following her IIM with LIPC, said: “I like the environment and making new friends. The learning environment is good.
“The tutors are friendly and it has given me the opportunity to meet people from different countries.”
Bing Bai Ruo, from China, studying on the IIM in preparation for MA Fashion Management with Marketing, added: “It is very exciting and enjoyable to be here. Everything is new and we can become a part of a new story.”
More than 15 LIPC students from 2014 have already successfully progressed on to their DMU degrees.
The college offers flexible intakes in September, January, April and June, also providing students the option to take a 10-week pre-sessional English course if needed.
