Four teams at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) have been shortlisted for national higher education awards.
The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs) 2015 is a showcase for the best examples of innovation, teamwork and enterprise in UK higher education.
Inclusion on the shortlist for the prestigious national awards is a reflection of the work undertaken throughout DMU to support students, staff, the local community and the academic goals of the university.
The THELMAs recognised the work of the Square Mile team whose work, with the support of researchers and volunteers, led to the diagnosis of 140 people living with type-2 diabetes.
DMU’s reputation for providing exceptional support to students with autism has also been acknowledged, with the project included in the ‘Outstanding Student Services Team’ category.
The leadership of DMU through the university’s Executive Board is also recognised on the shortlist, as well as inclusion of the DMU People and Organisational Development team in the ‘Outstanding Human Resources Team’ category, which highlights the university’s commitment to giving staff the support they need.
The awards are now in their seventh year and are open to all UK higher education institutions.
They are intended to ‘shine a spotlight on those lesser celebrated teams who work in the engine room of our institutions, keeping things on track during trying times, and laying the foundations for future success’.
DMU has been nominated in the following categories:
- Outstanding Human Resources Team
- Outstanding Leadership and Management Team
- Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year
- Outstanding Student Services Team
The winners will be revealed on Thursday 18 June.
