The Gifted and Talented programme saw more than 160 year 10 students from 12 county schools spend four days at DMU. Six different schools were set up covering journalism, health and life sciences, dance, drama, art and design, and law.

Jessica Bogic, Square Mile Projects & Outreach Co-ordinator, said: “Across four days in their Easter holidays they have come onto campus to work with DMU lecturers and professionals to learn and discover more about their subject area to find out more information about their favourite subject area.

“The response from them has been great, it’s all worked really well and they have been saying they are having a fantastic time.”

For the students visiting, the experience gained by spending a few days at DMU has helped them to be more conscious of what they want to do when they finish school.

Marie Anjanette, 14, from Loughborough Grammar School, said: “I’ve been in the law school which has been really interesting, that’s not necessarily what I want to go on and do but it’s all about helping us decide.

“DMU has been really great, there’s lots of amazing facilities, especially the library and the accommodation looks really nice, and it looks like a good learning environment.”

Will Smith, 15, from Robert Smyth Academy, Harborough, said: “It’s just good to see what it would be like to study at university and it’s a fun experience as well, I could definitely see myself coming to study at DMU.”

Grace North, 15, from Sir Jonathan North Community College, Leicester, said: “I don’t really know what I want to do when I’m older other than something creative, so this have been a really good chance to try a few new things, meet some new people and see what’s on offer at DMU.”
