Thousands of students will stand shoulder to shoulder with sporting heroes, local legends and broadcasting giants when De Montfort University (DMU) honours its graduating class of summer 2012.
From Saturday 14 to Saturday 21 July 2012, Leicester’s iconic Curve theatre will welcome students, friends and family members to celebrate the success of DMU’s graduands.
It is the first time the summer ceremonies have been held at Curve following successful winter graduations in January.
Alongside the 4,000 students who will cross the stage during graduation week, the university will be proud to present honorary degrees to 12 distinguished individuals in recognition of outstanding achievements in their field.
Among others, honorary degrees will be presented to:
Lady Jennifer Gretton - Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire (Honorary Doctor of Letters)
Mr Paul Nixon - Former Leicestershire and England cricketer (Honorary Doctor of Letters)
Mr Lewis Moody MBE - England Rugby Union player (Honorary Doctor of Letters)
Ms Maggie Philbin - Television and radio presenter (Honorary Doctor of Technology)
Ms Moira Stuart OBE - Broadcast journalist and presenter (Honorary Doctor of Letters)
DMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard said: “This has been an exceptional year in the history of this institution following the visit of Her Majesty the Queen to begin the Diamond Jubilee Tour in March, and I am grateful for the opportunity to extend my personal thanks to each graduand for their role in that success.
“I hope that they are united in the feeling that their time here has been an exciting and inspirational chapter in their lives, and know DMU will be there to support their endeavours, and to celebrate their triumphs as our alumni, benefiting from what we hope will be a lifelong relationship with the university.”
