International Centre for Sports History and Culture FIFA Master 25th Anniversary Conference

To mark the 25th anniversary edition of the FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, the International Centre for Sports History and Culture (ICSHC) is delighted to announce details for this special conference on the Olympic Games.

The FIFA Master, which was ranked as the No.1 course in Europe for the twelfth time in 2024 by the global SportBusiness course rankings, is co-ordinated by the Centre International d’Etude du Sport (CIES) and supported by football’s world governing body FIFA. Selected Postgraduates dedicate a term of study at DMU’s International Centre for Sports History and Culture (ICSHC) in the Humanities of Sport before later spending a term at both the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan, Italy for the Sport Management module, and Switzerland’s University of Neuchâtel for the Sports Law module.

Confirmed speakers for the event are ICSHC Director and FIFA Master Co-Scientific Director, Professor Martin Polley, FIFA Master Co-Scientific Director, Dr Heather Dichter, Emeritus Professor Richard Holt, and FIFA Master 16th edition graduate, Primrose Mhunduru, who is now Gender Equality and Inclusion Manager at the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

 

The full confirmed programme for the conference is as follows:

Opening remarks and welcome by Mr Pierre Cornu (President of the CIES Foundation Council) and Ms Jill Cowley (Pro Vice-Chancellor / Dean of Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities)

Professor Martin Polley – “The Pioneers: Early Black British Olympians”.

Emeritus Professor Richard Holt – “Paris 1924: The First Modern Olympics?”

Dr Heather Dichter – “After Denver: How Innsbruck Became the Host of the 1976 Olympic Winter Games”.

FIFA Master Alumni Ms. Primrose Mhunduru (International Olympic Committee Gender Equality and Inclusion Manager) in conversation.

 

The event will also be live streamed, please select physical attendance to attend in person and online attendance to watch online.
