De Montfort University will be hosting this year’s British Chess Championship from 20 – 30 July.
The British Championship is the largest and most prestigious chess event in the UK with a long history going back to 1904. This year is the 109th Championship and sees a return to a Midlands venue with Leicester hosting the event for the first time since 1960. As well as the main British Championship over 9 days we will be running British Women's, Senior and Junior Championships together with a series of open competitions. We will also be organising a Chess festival with supporting chess related and cultural events to engage with the local community, together with wider engagement via broadcast and streaming coverage of the games. The English Chess Federation’s archive is held at the DMU library.
