Duration: 1 hour 37 minutes
British director Georgia Oakley’s fearless and defiant debut captures the sights, sounds and mood of Thatcherite Britain through the lens of an empathetic character study. Jean is a closeted gay PE teacher in a secondary school, forced to live a double life as the government’s despised Section 28 legislation looms over the country. Hiding her true self from her employer, a new student at the school threatens to shatter the façade Jean has created. This screening will be accompanied by an introduction from Claire Monk, Professor of Film & Film Culture at De Montfort University.
Screening as part of LGBTQ+ History Month in partnership with Phoenix and DMU Pride.
Please note: Phoenix will be screening Blue Jean from Friday 17 February to Wednesday 22 February.
