Personal profile

I joined the Drama team in 2006. My teaching and research focuses on Live Art and Contemporary Theatre and Performance, with a special interest in participatory and immersive practices.

I am a Senior Lecturer and lead modules in Directing (Level 5) and Live Art and Experimental Perfomance Practices (Level 6). I also supervise written and practice as research undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.

At present, I am working on a chapter on fragility in a forthcoming book on The Phenomenology of Blood in Performance Art. I am also developing a monograph which will explore audience participation in relation to notions of presence, ethics and performance. I have a forthcoming article on ‘The Ethics of Participation’ due to be published in the Journal of Contemporary Drama in English, 7.2, November 2019.

I have also worked as a contemporary theatre director, most recently I co-directed a 1960s Immersive Cinema project in collaboration with Dr Alissa Clarke and CATHI, which was staged at Picturehouse Cinema, Piccadilly, London. I have also collaborated with Guillermo Gómez-Pena’s performance company La Pocha Nosta. Prior to teaching, I established my own theatre company and produced performances at venues such as Hoxton Hall and the Ministry of Sound in London. I have also worked closely with several youth groups in Leicester.
