Who is eligible?
We know that finding the right place to live at university, where you will feel comfortable and secure, is vital; which is why we aim to provide a room in our university sourced accommodation for all eligible first year students.
Students who meet the below criteria and hold an unconditional firm offer will be invited to apply for accommodation online from 4 March 2013. Students holding a conditional firm offer will receive an email with instructions on how to book accommodation from 13 May 2013.
As the Accommodation Office will contact you by email it is important that you keep the university up-to-date with any changes to your email address.

Students who are not studying for the full academic year
There are various programmes offered by the university which mean that students do not require accommodation for the full academic year (September – June). In cases where the Accommodation Office has arrangements with your faculty/programme leader a small number of rooms are reserved. These are allocated on a first come first served basis to students with either an unconditional or conditional firm offer. International students requiring a room for 10 weeks or more are guaranteed accommodation under the terms of the International Students Accommodation Guarantee| subject to availability.
Please ensure that the dates of your contract are suitable before you enter into a contract as you may not be able to change these at a later date.
There are a limited number of rooms available for students who require accommodation starting in September but ending before the end of a standard contract (June/July) such as for FIFA and Erasmus students. These bookings will be made in Newarke Point| and are made subject to availability and need to be done by the middle of August.
If you are a FIFA student you will be able to book your accommodation online. A limited number of rooms will be available to you to book, with tailored contract dates beginning in September until the end of December. Please see the booking your accommodation| page for details about online bookings.
If you are an Erasmus student, you will need to contact us as early as possible to register your interest in booking a room. Your application will then be processed by the Accommodation Office on a first come first served basis. Once a room has been booked you will be sent an email asking you to visit the online system to formally accept the terms and conditions of the booking, you will then need to confirm your booking in the same way as students booking for the whole year.
If your course starts at any other time during the year then please email us for details about availability and the booking process.
If you will be a student at DMU for less than a full academic year but the above criteria does not apply to you then please contact your faculty or course leader to find out if accommodation arrangements have been made. You will need to be a full time enrolled DMU student for the duration of your stay to be eligible for accommodation in halls of residence.
Clearing and late applicants
If demand is very high, late and clearing applicants will need to be prepared to source their own private rented accommodation in Leicester. The Accommodation Office will support students with this, which includes hosting a 'find a home' event.
If you are applying through clearing and there is still availability in university sourced accommodation you will be sent an email with your login details once you have an unconditional firm offer, please try to book your room online once you receive this.
If you have a room booked prior to receiving your results and do not get the grades required your room will be cancelled, unless you also have an insurance choice with DMU. In this situation you will be refunded the £200 advance rent payment. If you then successfully obtain a place through clearing you will be able to log back into the booking system and book a new room, subject to availability. Please note you will need to repay the booking fee.
If you have any queries about availability or the private rented sector then contact the Accommodation Office who will be happy to advise you.
Deferrals
If you have deferred from last year (2012/13) and you have an unconditional firm offer you will be able to log on and book your room online from March 2013. If you have applied for 2013 entry to DMU but now wish to defer your place until 2014, you cannot reserve a room in our halls, you will be asked to book your room in 2014.
Postgraduate and mature students
If you are a mature student that meets our eligibility criteria you may book a room in halls.
Although we do not offer university-sourced rooms to postgraduate and research students, we are happy to offer advice on private rented accommodation. See our postgraduate accommodation options| for more information.
Accommodation for couples and families
All university sourced accommodation is for single persons only. Unfortunately we cannot offer any accommodation suitable for couples or families. The Accommodation Office can assist you and provide information about finding accommodation in the private rented sector.
