We know that finding a comfortable and secure place to live at university is vital, especially if you are an international student coming to live in the UK for the first time.
That is why we guarantee new international undergraduate and postgraduate students a room in university-sourced accommodation (subject to the terms of our International Student Accommodation Guarantee).
This guarantee applies to both EU and overseas students coming to DMU to study. We also aim to provide a room for all returning International students upon request and subject to availability.
In order to qualify for the guarantee you must firmly accept your conditional or unconditional offer of a place on a course before Monday 29 July 2013 and make your provisional (including payment of the £250 advance rent payment or damage deposit) booking before Friday 2 August 2013 and complete the booking process in accordance with the booking terms and conditions.
To accept your conditional or unconditional offer you will need to confirm in writing to the International Admissions Office that you will be accepting the offer of a place on a course, you will also need to obtain a relevant visa to study as well as pay the £3,000 deposit for your tuition fees.
As per the International Guarantee, If once you have booked accommodation you are then unable to come to the university (for example if your visa application is refused), under certain circumstances we will refund in full any pre-payments which you have made towards your rent (this does not include the £50 administrative fee paid as part of the booking fee). This is conditional on you notifying the Accommodation Office by 14 October 2013, for more information see our International Student Accommodation Guarantee.
We have selected four halls of residence for new overseas students. You can opt for either an en suite or standard room(with shared bathroom and toilet facilities). Contracts for new overseas students in these halls of residences will start on Friday 13th September in time for International Welcome Week. The following halls are selected because they are a popular choice with our international students and they are all conveniently located within a short walking distance of the city campus.
Returning overseas students wanting to remain in halls of residence after their first year and all EU students will have the same choice of halls as UK students. New EU students wanting to arrive before Friday 20th September for International Welcome Week should contact the hall of residence to arrange early arrival
The contracts at each hall vary so please ensure you read all of the information available before making your selection.
All rooms are furnished and all new international students are provided with a welcome pack (duvet, pillow and sheets). You will need to bring with you or purchase any other items you may require, like a TV or computer.
All accommodation is strictly non-smoking.
Once you have firmly accepted your offer of a place at DMU students with an unconditional offer will be able to book accommodation online from 4 March 2013, those with a conditional offer will be able to book from 13 May 2013 (subject to availability and eligibility).
International Student Support can also offer a wide range of advice (how to open a bank account in the UK), services (free airport pick-ups from Heathrow Airport to the university) and events (International Welcome Week) for our International students.
