Scripting and Searching

Assessment: Practical Examination 2 hours

This module provides an examination and understanding of the role of scripting languages (e.g. VBScript, bash, awk, ksh, PERL, Javascript) in the digital evidence examiner's toolkit and how simple utilities can be developed using these languages. The fundamentals of scripting, regular expressions and pattern matching, sorting and searching algorithms will be considered.

For students studying this continuing professional development module, there is an associated coursework module which is taken as part of the MSc/PGDip/PGCert programme.
