Module code: POPP 5022
This module examines Britain's response to the challenge of European integration since the Second World War, focusing particularly on the policy of different British governments. The module provides a historical survey of Britain's relationship with Europe prior to and after membership. The module also analyses the wider factors that have influenced British policy and the reasons for the traditional reluctance of successive governments to fully support further integration at the European level. Finally, the impact that membership has had on Britain, particularly the British government, is examined. Concepts such as Europeanisation and Euroscepticism are also examined in relation to Britain's relationship with the EU.
