Additional costs and optional extras related to undergraduate business courses
The core textbooks for all modules are available in the Kimberlin Library, and journal articles on your reading lists are also available electronically from your myDMU login. Similarly, any other essential course material (including in some cases an electronic version of the core textbook) is available from the dedicated module site on the University’s virtual-learning environment. Some students like to purchase their own copies of textbooks or print course documents. We suggest allowing up to £200 per year if you wish to purchase new textbooks, less for second hand.
There are no compulsory placements or trips associated with this programme, however, you will have the option of participating in #DMUglobal trips either as part of some of the modules or as an extra-curricular activity. These trips are subsidised by the university and the cost and the subsidy varies by location.
If you wish to undertake an international year-abroad at a partner institution fees are reduced to £650 for the year. This covers your access to all DMU services during your year away from the university and any support visit from academics or professional staff, as well as all the preparation support provided in advance. No fees are payable to the overseas partner, but there may be additional costs for other services. Fees for a Semester Abroad are 50% of the normal fee. For student exchanges which form part of the Erasmus+ scheme a bursary is normally available.
All Business and Law students have the opportunity to take a paid placement year in industry before their final year. Placements are full-time jobs and are available in a wide variety of sectors include private, public and not-for profit. Over 90% of employers will pay between £12,000 and £26,000. The average for placements is around £14,000 outside of London. If you wish to undertake a placement year facilitated by DMU fees are reduced to £650 for the year. This covers your access to all DMU services during your year away from the university, support from your academic supervisor and professional staff, as well as all the preparation support provided in advance.
