Art and Design core costs

All materials used in workshops for Inductions and taught sessions are supplied free of charge. In addition, we are committed to providing our students with an excellent student experience that helps them fulfil their potential and achieve their goals during their time with us.  We are very pleased to confirm that generic core workshop materials will be available at no cost, as well as some programme-specific workshop materials.

Generic core workshop materials will be supplied at no cost to all students on a range of our art, architecture and design programmes:


  • Softwood including standard stock 2x1 and 2x2
  • Stocked MDF sheet wood all thicknesses up to 12mm
  • Stocked plastics all thicknesses up to 3mm
  • All screws, bolts, adhesives and construction sundries
  • XPS Foam
  • Stocked card
  • Stocked sheet steel up to 1.5mm thick
  • Bar, rod and tube up to 12mm diameter
  • Wire
  • Spray shop (all spraying)
  • Paper for all wide-format printing undertaken within the Vijay Patel building
  • 1mm Pulp Board
  • 3mm Pulp Board
  • Acrylic Sheet material
  • Styrene up to 2.5mm
  • PETG up to 2.5mm
  • Print costs will also be reduced in almost all cases

Important Information

You may be entitled to support from the University in the form of additional funds to assist you with buying items you may need to help you with your chosen course. 

Please note that we may not be able to offer this in the future if the University’s circumstances change.

The type of circumstance which could mean we need to stop this funding include without limitation: if events outside of our reasonable control happen;  if our business operations change; if there is a change of control of the university; if the University’s financial situation changes; if its legal status changes; if the course for which the funding is available no longer attracts this support as it is deemed you no longer need to provide the resources yourself; or if they are deemed no longer necessary for the course.

If this type of circumstance occurs so we are no longer going to provide this support we will let you know as soon as possible. 

We consider it unlikely that these circumstances could occur and mean we cease providing this support but please don’t make a decision to attend this course based on the availability of the fund for your course.
