Postgraduate Study

We offer studies in Microelectronics and Nanotechnology at postgraduate level. There are two options available to study at EMTERC. If you prefer a taught course than MSc MEANT is for you. Alternatively, we offer PhD and MPhil degrees. 

Micro Electronics and Nano Technologies (MEANT) MSc/PG Dip/PG Certificate

Current MSc MEANT dissertation projects are: 

  • Fully printed organic thin film transistors (TFTs)
  • Making organic solar cells using different small organic molecules
  • Fabricating organic light-emitting diodes (LEDs)
  • Enhancing electrical parameters (dielectric constant of polymers using metal nanoparticles)
  • The production and optimisation of P3HT for solar cells applications
  • Growing of aligned silicon nano-wires using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD)
  • Characterization of the charge transfer complex based on small organic molecules and its role in memory devices
  • Making polymer fibers using spin-coating
  • Enhancing electrical parameters (dielectric constant, photoconductivity) of polymers using ferroelectric nanoparticles
  • Molecular combing of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) for templated assembly of nanowires

PhD and MPhil Degrees

We are looking for applicants interested in the research in the following areas: 

  • Nano materials and devices and their applications in emerging areas of electronics eg Energy and healthcare
  • Emerging electronic memory devices
  • Organic electronics
  • Low temperature large area electronics
  • Photovoltaics
  • Design and characterisation of power semiconductor devices and integrated circuits
  • Semiconductor device and process modelling including silicon and compound semiconductors
  • Cheap and flexible electronics
  • Self assembly
  • Instrumentation development for the growth of nano-materials
